What Really Happens at the YMCA
At the YMCA we offer many great programs and work with people of all ages. But what really happens at your YMCA is a difference in people’s lives. People like you, like your neighbor, like your child & grandchild, and everyone who experiences it.
Our friend Jackie comes to the YMCA most days of the week to use the pool; she deals with chronic pain. Jackie says the staff and people here make her day, always greeting her and helping her, making sure she gets in and out okay and telling her not to overdo it so she can be back tomorrow. Truth be told, she makes our day. She’s a lovely lady.
Hannah, 11 years old, takes Y swim lessons. She has 3 younger siblings who participate too. While waiting for their lessons one day, our program director asked her to be a helper with the “little kids” class. Hannah, shy by nature, said yes. Her extra set of eyes and helping hands are a huge help with the little ones. She beams when she gets introduced with the rest of the staff at the start of class. Self esteem scale … sky high!
Roy loves coming to the Y. Here’s what he has to say about his YMCA … Why I love the Y: Truthfully, because at the Y, exercise and good health became easy, fun and addictive. The exercise room; A large gym with a walking track; A pool with activities for all ages; A sauna, whirlpool and a hot shower; Best of all, my favorite, a warm, caring, friendly, professional staff that are available to recommend a program to suit your needs and abilities. Finally, and this is great! The totally awesome friends you can meet there. What a great place to gather and meet others who want to improve their wellbeing. The Y has made a difference in my life. I love it. Hope to see you there having fun and enjoying life.
How has your YMCA made a difference in your life? Why do you love your Y? As we embark on our annual fundraising campaign, please think about how you can help make a difference in the lives of others. Give, volunteer, serve … you’ll be forever changed. 2010 YMCA Strong Kids Campaign
