Teen Leaders Program

Become active in your YMCA!

The YMCA provides year round activities and volunteer opportunities for students ages 12–15 years. Special events, trainings and leadership experiences offered for local youth.  Contact Tony at 749-8020 to get involved! 

Our first gathering will be held on Saturday, January 16th 6:00 – 8:00pm at the YMCA. Bring a friend, some ideas, and your swimming suit!

1st Annual Fishin' Frenzy Ice Fishing Contest

Saturday, February 6  9am - 2pm at Whitewater Lake in Hoyt Lakes

The Mesabi Family YMCA is holding its first annual Fishin’ Frenzy Ice Fishing Contest 9am – 2pm on Saturday, February 6th at Whitewater Lake in Hoyt Lakes.

Cash prizes awarded to top three Walleye and top three Northern.  Catch a fish and be entered into a raffle with over $1000 in prizes.  Contest is open to all ages.  All participants can fish two holes with each ticket purchased.  Shelters and electronics are allowed.  Tickets are $40 and are available for purchase at the YMCA, Sport Stop in Aurora, Novy’s Haven in Hoyt Lakes and online at www.mesabiymca.com.  Tickets can also be purchased on-site the day of the event. 

This event is sponsored by the Mesabi Family YMCA, Sport Stop, Hoyt lakes IGA, Hoyt Lakes Inn & Suites and Novy’s Haven.

 

Y Tri - Indoor Triathlon

Saturday, February 27   1 - 5pm

The perfect event for first-time triathletes or anyone looking for a challenge! Participants will swim, bike and run (15 minutes each), trying to complete the greatest distance possible during each event. Awards will be given to the top finishing male and female individuals and male, female, and coed teams.

AGES:  15 years & up

FEE:     $15/individual or $30/team (2 or 3 individuals allowed per team)

 

Volunteer Coaches

Our Youth Sports programs build winners on and off the field by encouraging positive values like teamwork and fair play.  Help the YMCA build strong kids by being a volunteer coach.  Basketball, volleyball, t-ball, soccer...whatever your sport, there's a place for you here at the Y!  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Tony, our Sports Program Assistant at 749-8020 ext 204 or sports@mesabiymca.com
